Hi, Anyone here moved to or going to move to New Zealand from the US? What are the changes you see (quality of life, work culture, housing, food, salary etc)? Do you think it's worth moving there or wait for GC here on H1B?
If you’re indian there’s no GC in our lifetime. So either be content to earn well but be prepared to leave or move to other countries like Canada or Australia/ NZ but earn much less
Amazon, you dont see country caps being removed? You dont see S386 getting passed?
Canada, New Zealand or Australia
What company are you moving to in New Zealand?
I don't have a job offer now. It's just initial stage and my permanent resident visa is in process. That's why just want to check with people who already moved to or almost going to move. How you searched for jobs and how's the life transition from US to NZ?
You can’t initiate Permanent Visa for NZ sitting in US. You go there on a temporary visa for 2 years and then apply for permanent visa , that’s how it works. You don’t need a job offer to initiate a temporary visa.

I lived there for 4yrs (2008-2012), came to US to do my MBA and have been here since. Ask me what u want to know.
What are the pros/cons you noticed living in US vs NZ?
This is a very generic question and depends on the person. Pro: Good quality of life, natural beauty, lots of things to do, good education Cons : very limited growth opportunities, limited salary growth don’t expect high TC, cost of living is high
NZ the most beautiful country in the world and wonderful people there. If the recent leaders would not have changed the housing policies for foreign nationals, I would have considered spending my retirement there for sure
I think you can buy property if you are on certain visa types and lived in NZ for 183 days in last 12 months.
Trust me that law was really needed. I was the member if city council of Auckland, housing problem was getting bad.
Is there any particular reason for not choosing NZ?
That's true. I am confused though, I feel I am very restricted with H1B visa. I don't think that GC is an option as it's too long so just want to see if it's worth to wait and face uncertainty every 3 years or live with limited options to progress but no uncertainty :(
Did you move eventually?

Is it cheaper to eat chipotle everyday than buy groceries ?
Where in NZ? Auckland is pretty cool and I’d say comparable work culture. Good quality of life too, pretty expensive relative to rest of Nz though
Yeah, mostly the big cities like Auckland, Wellington , Christchurch etc. Are there any other cities with jobs in IT?
AKL / WLG / CHCH are the only "cities" in NZ (and using the term "city" loosely in the sense of the last two)
