I've got on-sites scheduled for OCI and AWS and Im considering whether it's worth it to make a switch if I get offer/s. I'm also waiting for a few other companies to get back to me, but so far these are the only onsites I've got. I'm currently in Arkansas working probably 35hrs a week and would be moving to Seattle. On h1b, row. So would be staying at the new company for 2-3 years to get done with gc. TC ~110k YOE ~2
2-3 years GC, that’s fastest on H1B I have heard. Seattle welcomes you
I'm from the rest of the world so it's much faster
Aws definitely. OCI is flaky given your visa situation. I’ve heard OCI immigration team is shit and they’re still uncertain about their cloud presence (might lay-off like before)
Thanks, would you still recommend against a switch to OCI if that's the only offer I get?
You want to stay at a company for 2-3 years. I can’t predict if OCI will or will not lay-off H1B workers during that time. There has been lay offs in the past. AWS on the other hand is cutthroat, but there is a sense of good job security. You can do internal transfers if you start to notice things aren’t turning out as great. Besides, PIP in Amazon is a slow process. You get a few months before you’re finally gone so that gives you enough time to interview and go elsewhere.
If you get only OCI, go for it. There is nothing about 2-3 years in a company. If you get aws and oci, then go with oci. My very good friend works in oci and is on H1B. Yes, he doesn’t like Oci much but had no immigration issues at all
Has he talked about why he doesn't like OCI much?
AWS. It’ll still be rocking in 2-3 years. Who knows about OCI. Amazon also owns a big chunk of the city which is cool.
Definitely
