I will be moving shortly to redmond from Boston. There are so many apartment buildings to choose from and pictures look nice but would prefer some input from locals. I am mid 30s (married). We dont go out often. I dont plan to purchase a car. Would like something near Microsoft and nice to live in (near groceries). Would like to be near public transportation as i may have to fly often to visit family back home. Recommendations welcome. Relocation package 15K or they pay for entire move. Update to answer many of your questions) not indian or asian (wasnt sure why everyone was asking but it sounded as some buildings were heavily populated by certain nationalities... would prefer not to be in overpopulated housings. i will be in reswest (wasnt aware there were 2 campuses
Recommendation: get a car.
Check out Eaves at Redmond. It is near Overlake transit with easy access to bus. It is better to get a car still.
Will check out eaves, thanks. How long is the shuttle during rush hour to red west campus?
Op, two Q: 1. Are you interested in special kind of groceries, like Chinese or Indian, or does any store work for you? 2. Do you know which building of msft you will be in?
I am not indian nor chinese :) Microsoft building redwest
If you don't need special groceries, then most of the other placessuggested by folks would work. Right opposite to redwest there are a few buildings albeit older. But there are some new places along 148.
The LIV apartments are close and walking distance to the Redmond campus
Oh no, not LIV, do Avalon or AVA
Why not LIV?
Hey OP theres a Microsoft shuttle that covers almost all of the east side and seattle so if you dont want to drive to work, theres always that option. Also check out a newer complex called Hyde Square, it's right next to the Microsoft Redmond Campus even though it's technically in bellevue, it's right on the border and 0.7 miles from campus.
Will do, thanks. I’m confused as I wasn’t aware there were multiple Microsoft campuses? Is building redwest the main campus that everyone refers too?
Well there is the main campus which is Redmond. Find out which building you work in specifically (it should be the one you interviewed in). There are other microsoft locations but they aren't necessarily called campuses.
If you’re not getting a car, only consider living in Downtown Bellevue or anywhere on the Seattle Connector routes. The shuttles can take you to work and you can take advantage of walkable neighborhoods when home. If you choose Redmond, you’ll be miserable trying to get around Redmond without a car. If you must live in Redmond for whatever reason, only consider the downtown Redmond area, which is essentially a big outdoor shopping mall. Otherwise, I don’t think your walkablilty criteria can be met.
Which apartments in downtown Bellevue would you recommend?
Is that big shopping mall all there is to do in Redmond? I also don’t recall any shopping centers that was walking distance (stayed at the Marriott across the mall).
Use MICROSOFT shuttles on weekdays, use public/Uber/Lyft and you would be fine. Unless you go out for site seeing etc.. you don’t need a car, even then you could rent few days if you need to move around. The most important thing is our mindset and you would be totally fine.
Check out apartments in downtown Bellevue. Easy bus ride to Microsoft campus, connected by public transport to everywhere else. Walkable if you want to go to restaurants or go see a movie. About 30 mins to both airports.
Shuttles from downtown Bellevue to Microsoft building redwest ? How long will it take? Any recommendations for the apartments?
You can take the B-Line bus from Bellevue transit center to Redwest. Or take the Microsoft shuttle to Overlake Transit center and another shuttle to Redwest. Both should take 30-40 mins but the B-Line runs frequently all day long. Apartments depends on whether you're looking for reasonable value or luxury. You could go either way in downtown Bellevue.
+1 comments above. There are many walkable neighborhoods in Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Issaquah that are serviced by Connectors. Most listings have Walk scores. Don't settle on Redmond, esp if you are used to an actual city.
Will start looking in Bellevue. Any recommendations?
I’m in the same boat as you pretty soon maybe check our Amli in Bellevue
While public transportation is getting better, you will need a car in Redmond. If you work with in downtown Seattle, you might get by without a car.
The Microsoft headquarters is in Redmond so it could be doable. There lots of apartment buildings near by.
You would be so stranded if you had no car in Redmond. You could walk to work and then what else? Redmond is relatively boring
