What to expect? Social scene, vibes, and living conditions compared to SF? Considering Sunnyvale over SF due to long commute to the office once things open up next year.

Sunnyvale downtown is very safe. It is very bustling. Ofcourse is not a great party place but I like the area. You ll find everything within a block or two. You will be fine.

I recently did a reverse move. From Sunnyvale to Seattle. Sunnyvale is really nice if you want quieter neighborhood, the weather and closeness to Facebook headquarters. But you will notice a huge difference in your social life especially after living in city. You would need to drive everywhere. There is not much for night life. But if you have friends there you would be fine. But the weather is really nice.

if night life is really important:

option 1: live in south bay, take gbus to SF on going-out nights, and Uber/Lyft back. you're saving $1000/month in rent by not being in SF, so Lyft fees are a wash.

option 2: bite the bullet and live in SF. post-covid, you only have to go to office 3 days per week. plan to spend 3 hours round trip commuting those days, but work on gbus can make it tolerable
