Moving to US from India

I am working in Expedia India as Software Development Engineer 2 from past 1.5 years. My total work experience is 4.5 years. I want to relocate to US as early as possible. Switching team to expedia seattle office is possible but still very very limited. I know going to Amazon India, its easy to move to US on L1 but still takes time. Any other possibilities ?. Any contract SDE jobs that can sponsor the work visa like h1b for me OR anything similar ? P.S I have US B1 B2 Visa

TC? I've heard companies pay you dirt and get more work out of you, when they know that you rely on them due to Visa issues. Be aware.

Your visa doesn’t help in any way really. L1 would be the safe bet in the short term from Expedia and then h1b is a lottery / wait 1 year for for l1 in new company (and hope they actually do it) Other options are around o1 , advance studies in the states with opt and all kind of investing visas which are all less relevant usually. Good luck

Thanks. I mentioned about b1 b2 visa as I can travel to give interview in the states if some company is willing to sponsor my visa.

What's your motivation to move to the US?

Google Narpreet Dec 23, 2019

Have you been to India?

Motivation is better lifestyle with better salaries, more growth opportunities for better career

@op: FYI the current green card wait time is beyond your life expectancy (150+ years). So if you are thinking about getting one, just so you know, please figure out way to live 150 years 😂😂 On a serious note, just know that if you put your roots here, you will be in trouble. Your future wife can't work (on h1). She will be miserable. If you get kicked out due to visa rejection, you have to uproot yourself within x days. These are extremely stressful things. It's not while you are single, but having more responsibility makes these simple moves very complicated. You also have, on the other hand, any one from rest of the world becoming citizen in 7 years and calling you abuser, even though you are as much skilled and capable as them. That situation would be bizarre to you, as you may have this thought that merit is what matters here for employment green card, not country you were born. Telling you because, I wish someone told me this detail. My life choices would have been very different.

1. If you knew this before moving, how would that have changed your decision? 2. Why do you think you can not reverse your decision now that you know all the details?

1) I would have left US before I had my kid and probably got internal transfer at Google. 2) <retracted>

US: Options would be 1. Get an L1 and transfer, 2. Switch jobs and find a company that would sponsor in the upcoming H1B lottery (still uncertain, because it's a lottery), or 3. Come for an MS (big opportunity cost for you) and work 3 years on OPT and hope to get lucky in the 3 H1B lotteries while on OPT. Easier option : Move to Canada?

Expedia Group gangam Dec 23, 2019

Thanks. Can you please help me more with point 2. How to find a company that would sponsor h1b (except FAANG). Are there any specific job portals which can help

Symantec haganeno Dec 23, 2019

What I meant was find a job in India at a company which would sponsor an H-1B in the future. I guess LinkedIn should be pretty effective to find job, but you would have to ask the recruiters beforehand if there is scope for an H-1B sponsorship. Most job portals specifically for H1B jobs are pretty shady I believe, with mostly consultancies posting their jobs and paying terribly low salaries, but you'll have to try your luck there too I'm afraid. Google "H1B jobs" and I'm sure you'll find many of these visa specific portals.

Are other countries, like Canada, UK, on the list too?

Apple Oslooo Dec 23, 2019

Your best options are the ones you have listed Don’t go into the consulting rat hole, tons of Visa issues and shitty pay and abusive contractors

Take my advice, do NOT come to the US. The GC wait is not worth it.
