I'm planning to switch from Microsoft(Redmond) to LinkedIn(SF bay). They do have different interview process; want to check if anyone has been in the process and what happens with the stocks? Anyone went this route after acquisition? And leveling(pre acquisition employees please contribute for this one)? 61-62 should get Sr.?
LinkedIn levels are inflated. Msft 61-62 should get Sr
They print you out a neat little graph visualizing your connections for you to keep which is nice. And they will likely do panel interviews, Apple style, 2 on 1 or more, so if you mess up a coding problem it counts twice. But overall I don't think the difficulty of their interviews is high, you just have to not beat yourself.
Fwiw, if you have two interviewers for one section, its likely a master and apprentice. I wouldn't say the score counts double, but it'll add some weight if the two scores are heavily aligned.
From what I know, it's treated as external company. Your manager will not get notified even they make an offer.
61-62 is senior, 63-64 is staff. Interviews are harder than MSFT but much of it is behavioral.
I was 62 but got SWE in lnkd. I joined before acquisition. Interview was way harder at lnkd.
But just to clarify, I was at the higher end of swe bell curve in terms of comp. Someone junior than me joined later and was Sr. SWE. My manager implied that his comp is lower or the same though.
That is awful, you really got screwed
I was 61 and joined as SWE.
Did you join pre-acquisition?
Yes.
You will get leveled like any other candidate. It is not an internal transfer, but you will likely get to keep your stock and vesting, and *may* get more
For LinkedIn your level is determined after your interview. It is 100% confidential until you put your notice in and for stock you keep whatever you have at Microsoft (you avoid starting a new vesting period which is nice) but they take into account what equity you have at Microsoft and the HR teams share that info but only to one another not managers. All in all. It's like interviewing at a completely different company. LinkedIn's interview process is damn near the same as Google, bar is that high for passing as well.
No wonder I couldn't clear LinkedIn. I failed the phone interview :/. I got FB offer a week later and will be joining there soon.
Really?! As tough as Google? I am interviewing candidates at LinkedIn and I know the coding questions. They are not as tough. Maybe the Google interviewers I had the pleasure of meeting with were sadists but the questions they asked were so obscure, no amount of preparation would have made me ready. And I think of myself as quite smart. Thinking of it, I was first of my class and there are people at Google from my class way below me. So maybe I am going about it wrong or I have been quite unlucky with my Google interviews.

Yes! You need to interview. Phone + onsite
Is the manager notified like in case of an internal transfer?
You mean, if you get the offer? Don't know, but it probably makes sense?
