Only been at msft for a couple of month . Got in through hiring event. So I took a job in Dallas and its remote from Dallas till office is built in 2023 or 2024. I am not sure if we will get a temp office like a wework and there is no eta on this based on when I asked my manager. For a while I thought I would be placed in Las Colinas campus but that is not the case, atleast for me.

The thing is I thought I would love remote but I really don't. I am thinking of transferring to an atlanta or Austin or any hybrid/office team. My understanding is internal switch is complete loop.
How should I approach the switch process? Like does my reason of not being full remote sound strange?

  • Just start going into the las colinas office. Itโ€™s mostly touch down workstations at all Microsoft offices anyways. No one will care. Itโ€™s gonna be empty anyways.

    • You can literally just show up in las colinas and sit at a touch down desk if you want to be in the office for whatever reason. You donโ€™t need an assigned desk. When you show up, ask the receptionist where the touch down desks are located. Itโ€™s really no big deal to show up at a random Microsoft office as a FTE. Iโ€™ve done it a zillion times. You can request building access in advance online as well so you keycard works.

Ask to stay with the same team and move to a different city. Your manager should be able to initiate that if they are ok with it.

I would have to ask to move to same cost right? Like move to Atlanta or Austin? I can't imagine being allowed to move to Redmond. This position was for dallas itself so am bit concerned if they will let me move. I just thought campus being built etc will.be faster
