VMWare offer is solid for Austin. Go for it!

VMware oacr36 Nov 1, 2021

My vote is VMware, but maybe I’m a little biased since I work here? What pushes me in that direction is the location - Austin is a great location and your COL will be relatively lower. I think there’s some upside to vmware stock too after this spin-off.

I think even msft only have 🥜 refreshers. Any insights about how much they offer for sde2?

Worked at both the companies. Vmware has a far far far better work culture and ethics that Microsoft can ever achieve in their lifetimes. Vmware has good product catalog. I agree your comment about yearly layoffs. that’s a sad thing. People do live in fear every January. Dell Vmware spin off is will be good for Vmware. Dell bought all those shares to suck money out of Vmware since Vmware is the cash cow. Pat was an excellent ceo. Microsoft is an extremely bureaucratic organization. Quality of engineers at Vmware are far far better. Can’t stress that enough. There are fewer PMs at Vmware and they are talented and useful unlike at Microsoft where there are absolutely useless PMs for every button on the screen and absolutely do nothing. By looking at your offers VMware is a clear cut choice.

What are you smoking bro? VMware is a shitshow

Microsoft प्रेत अंकल Nov 1, 2021

I worked at Vmware and currently work at Microsoft. I know what I am talking about. Unless something drastically changed in past few months. Like I said, the only thing I didn’t like about Vmware was their annual layoffs. Vmware has unlimited paid vacations and I did use them pretty generously. MSFT stocks have performed better than VMW. Microsoft has some advantages over Vmware like perks are slightly better. If Vmware is a shit show then Microsoft is god knows what. Super duper shit show.

Is this MTS2 or MTS3 offer? Bonus seems low 212k in Austin should go further than 200k in Redmond

Oracle morty's Nov 2, 2021

Shouldn’t be a big diff. Since Austin became very expensive lately

MSFT L61 or 62?

VMware +ve_VMW Nov 1, 2021

VMW .. gr8 wlb and good tech stack .. also very flexible to move around ..

Prudential billm OP Nov 1, 2021

You mean internal transfers?

VMware HEtD35 Nov 1, 2021

Yes internal transfers are widely widely available and there’s a LOT of groups and products and stacks you can change to

Levels at VMware and Msft?

Microsoft 5exy Nov 1, 2021

Personally, you couldn't find a low enough cost of living for the fact that I'd be living in a trash red state

VMware K8sWare Nov 1, 2021

It's true that VMware has annual layoffs but remember that Microsoft under that fu*ker Satya has laid off more than 20000 people since 2014. In 2014 alone 18000 people were laid off and since then MS has had multiple waves of layoffs.

VMware 9ubt6fs3 Nov 1, 2021

Msft laid off only the testers in 2014

VMware K8sWare Nov 1, 2021

In Redmond it was mostly SDETS but also some devs. I don't know about the Nokia employees.

Hi congrats on your offers! Would you mind sharing your prep for code and sys. design? Were most of your coding questions medium difficulty? Thank you in advance.
