For Japan expect total pay at max 14-15M yen. Highest payers are Indeed , Google and Amazon in Japan. Startups do pay lower. Ideally expect 10-11M. Crossing 10M Yen is a big deal in Japan.
    M means million.

  • Agree with legoblox above.

I cleared all the rounds at a start-up and asked them for 10m yen base. They just declined without even negotiating.

If you want to be on the safe side and not blow them off, ask for 8m or 9m yen base.

Thanks, very helpful! Would you mind helping with insights about bonuses and other benefits as well? Is joining bonus a common thing? What is an average performance bonus? Is insurance and pension a part of the base? I heard in the US companies pay for 401k (pension) which is not reflected in the base.

    • Can't help you there buddy. Since I only tried at one start-up in tokyo and they didn't extend an offer. So I don't know the details of the package.

I assume it's the guys working in Japan who can answer the best. But I get your point. Just divide the yen with 110. 6-15M yen is 54k-136K USD. 10M is 90k USD.
