Makes sense, @CmndrKeen. I forgot to add that, besides being illegal under some circumstances, you may have signed a binding agreement with your employer...

Doesn’t matter to me though. Stock at Credit Karma is still paper money at this point!

Glad @CmndrKeen pointed that out... I never got the memo after they bought us out.

  • These start-up companies are plain cheating investors/stock holders by reporting losses right after IPO.

To build on what @grx has mentioned, an IPO is a way to raise money for the company. Financial institutions provide guidance on what should be the asking price on opening day. They should set it so that they can maximize returns for the company and yet at the same time not scare off individual investors.

Some companies do open with a lower IPO price because they are too worried about the perception of stock price going down. Some make the tough call to focus on building capital through IPO for future investments in the company - they usually have the price at the higher level.

If the company's product and processes are good, a better stock price will show up eventually. The time is different for different businesses though. Take FB for instance, they went down initially after IPO and then they grew a lot.

Also I would recommend reading The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. Focus on being a passive investor rather than a speculative one

One thing that Microsoft _really_ knows how to do is doing things at scale.

    • It’s funny that you mention Outlook because there are a lot of customers that get Office 365 specifically because they *want* Outlook. The outlook/exchange combo is light years ahead of gsuite as is Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
