Go woke, go broke: Google fires 28 employees involved in pro-Hamas protest
This is in Tokyo, Japan, with numbers converted to dollars using today's exchange rates. 1999-2001 32k 2002-2005 32k + 9k shift bonus 2006-2007 38k + 3k bonus + 9k shift bonus 2008-2016 42k + 3k bonus + 9k shift bonus 2017 41k + 3k bonus + 5k SB (rotating shifts, so fewer nights) + 2k stock vested from 2013 2018 40k + 3k bonus + 5k SB + 2k stock 2019 40k + 3k bonus + 2k stock (no nights anymore) Yeah, mid level workers don't get paid much over here. :( (Edit: for those of you who just want a string of numbers: 32, 32, 32, 41, 41, 41, 41, 50, 50, 54, 54, 54, 54, 54, 54, 54, 54, 54, 51, 50, 45.)
I saw another Japanese worker citing 44k after 20 yoe. Do these numbers really work out for you? I can't imagine the cost of living in Tokyo being that low
CoL in Tokyo is pretty reasonable these days, in part because the government has drastically devalued the yen, meaning that our salaries don't buy too many dollars or euro. Rent on a 200 square foot single person apartment could be under $700 these days. Then again, that's one quarter of a fresh grad's pre-tax pay.
