Today my manager asked me if I’ve been using chat, GPT to do my work. He said he became suspicious when the quality of my work and efficiency increase dramatically over the last several weeks. I admitted to doing it but also stated these were original ideas that I wanted to articulate in a better and more persuasive way, since English is not my first language. I also expressed the usefulness for my coding projects since I’m able to massively increase my efficiency, so I can focus more on the project then on the minutia. He told me it was unfair to the rest of the team it was making everyone look bad. He also said it was unethical so either stop using it all together or risk going on a PIP. Is that even legal? TC 125
Dumb
How dare you do better work.
Manager seems he’s insecure that an AI model can replace him
Just do it at a slower pace and goof off in your spare time
The only correct answer. Manager would have concerns like employee head count . Being more efficient might translate to less employees under him for empire building.read the room.

I think its more about the risk of posting confidential info into chatgpt
That’s a reasonable concern. I wonder if this person’s manager raised this.
That should apply to Googling, too
Fuck the manager who thinks that way.. If anything helps you improve productivity and efficiency you should go for it.. I always encourage my team to use tools of their choice to deliver results.. Although one thing to be careful about is sharing any confidential, internal information on chatgpt as that can lead to compliance issue which definitely can result in pip or termination.

Definitely
Tell him 1:1 with ChatGPT is more useful than with him.

this should be obvious idk why people keep falling for this bait 1: if ChatGPT is dramatically increasing the quality of your code, your code was absolute garbage 2: your manager wouldn't threaten with PIP, ChatGPT very explicitly says it uses your data
ChatGPT is very helpful to get answers for certain things when you are too lazy to learn something. For example, I am not an expert in bash scripting, so I ask ChatGPT frequently to get help with it cause I write maybe 20 lines of sh a year or even less.
