Currently grade 9 at Intel and TC is $240K. Job is HW DV (SV/UVM). 18 YOE with masters. And location is east coast, Massachusetts where I currently work and live. Qualcomm offer after rejecting the first one: Senior Staff Base: $170K RSU: $75K over 3 years Sign-on bonus: $35K Retention bonus: $15K Recruiter says annual cash bonus is 15% (which I highly doubt but let’s use that for the high end TC calculations) So without the one time bonuses their TC is $220K which is a pay cut. With the one time bonuses it’s $270K but don’t forget there’s no RSU for the first year. So the actual first year TC is $245K. What do you all think? All I know is I’m not taking a pay cut even though Intel sucks. I’m willing to walk away. Should I send the rejection by email or should I tell the recruiter over the phone?
QC cannot meet intel grade 8 offer, i have seen that . They might add a couple of retention bonuses though
Wow not even for grade 8?! I wish I had known this. I wouldn’t have even approached them at all as a grade 9er
what are you talking about? I was grade 8 at Intel, TC is below average.
Grade 9 is super impressive .. good shit . Don’t think air a pay cut , call and negotiate more
Ok, here’s what bothers me: according to levels.fyi this offer is below both median and average TC. This is definitely a lowball even in their standard.
levels.fyi show average for senior staff is 230k in san diego. yours is 220k so its about right. what is the offer location?
Boston. Similar COL to SD. A bit lower state income tax.
Horrible offer. Reject it.
Just remember intel stock will drop by half in two years so your current TC is going to nosedive.
The RSU portion of current TC is not that big of a component. You should know that better being a former Intel employee. Intel gives peanuts for RSU. Now what could be affected in TC is the multiplier for the bonus. It can nosedive.
240 TC means you got a sl2 or sl1 in the past few years so it could make a 10k or 20k difference. I know plenty of gr9 at 200 or 210 because of sl3 only focals, they probably couldn't care less.
More details of the offer: Both one time bonuses have 24 month conditions. The retention one is not even prorated. And you get it in the 13th month.
Question for the Qualcomm peeps: is the 15% annual cash bonus realistic for a Sr Staff? Or is it trending more around 10%?
Not worth it, Intel has much better benefits such as sabbatical and is much more laid back.
Ask to increase base to 180K, sign-on 40K (1 year), RSU 80K.
Then year 2 and year 3 TC will be roughly $230K which is still the low end of my current TC. Only year 1 would be good.
Sorry year 2 would be $248K. Above my high end TC. You’re right with your numbers.

Guys who don’t work out: why?
Just send and email explaining how the offer falls short of your minimum requirements to make the switch and that you’re available for a call if the recruiter wants to dive into anything
I already did that the first time around. He came back by sending me this written offer. The recruiter must be some kind of stupid. It simply playing dumb.
