I have been a Mac user for long time and out of touch with PC laptops. Looking to buy a gift for my niece, who is a PC user . Budget is $500-$600. I see Lenovo idea pad Core i5/12GB/256 SSD for $429 deal . Seems like a steal but wanted to check with blind community
Just no HP
Go with Dell.
Dell XPS or Microsoft Surface Laptop Edit Just saw the budget, ignore the above recommendations.
The Lenovo IdeaPad was the worst laptop I've ever bought. It's been years so maybe it's better now, but I was tricked by the Lenovo name (the Thinkpad is great) and it was an utter disappointment!
Dell or lenovo. They have great Linux compatibility. Also Asus is just as great
Dell XPS developer edition. Comes preinstalled with Ubuntu but you can just put any distro on it. The key is to not pay M$ for a Windoze license.
