Currently an L6 pm at Google.
Considering interviewing for a role at Uber on the Eats team - recruiter mentioned it would map to L5b.
Role seems interesting, but wanted to check how the PM culture at Uber is. Does an L5b PM have sufficient autotomy, or does it get interesting only at GPM level?
If any ex-googlers are at Uber, happy to also hear how both compare (speed/scope/impact etc)

L5B is roughly equal to L7 at google in scope. Big area of work. Comp is around 500-600. I am L5a, getting promoted to L5B and have 10 years Of experience. The bar is very high for L5B.

Uber stock likely goes $120+ before end of year. I would consider it.

Really 500-600k for 5B? Is that with your stock appreciation, (since recruiter shared a median around 450)? I’m currently at final round interview for a 5b role.

No, its normal. Recruiter figure sounds like start point of the range.

L5b PMs usually lead an entire area (xfn teams of 30+) with a few directs. People look to you to find and lead impact vs being told by a director. TC will be comparable. GPMs sort have similar responsibilities, but more scope (eg. 6+ directs vs ~3).

Haha, I'm in reverse boat considering going to google for L6 - but at a substantial paycut

Current manager is bad, but not bad enough to be pushed out. Likely cannot ship anything cool/impactful next year due to housekeeping and will also experience a TC drop in 2022.

Decision is against happiness x short term comp

Ugh that sucks @MF. Does Uber care about people management, or is it turning into Amazon culture?
