My recruiter said google has moved to team specific hiring. So no more team matching and less downlevel as the team may need resource at specific level you have applied.
Can anyone confirm? Or is it BS?

Seems I wasn't clear enough. Now downlevel will result into reject more often as the team may not need anyone at that level.

On the other hand, if Google is the only option you have, I would probably consider it anyway. And if you don’t get a promotion within max couple of years you will have much easier time moving to another FAANG with a better offer.
Look at your current TC, and the TC they’re offering with expected refresh/bonus. For all we know, you’re getting up-leveled…
