I'm interested in continuing my career as a Solution Architect but would like to move to one of the big 3 cloud providers/Snowflake/any other big US tech company with an offer in Canada.

Local Canadian companies pay πŸ₯œ for such roles and my interviews stopped during the initial recruiter calls when I mentioned my salary expectations.

Roles I'm looking for are generally customer facing and entail supporting pre sales teams and are a part of the professional services org of companies.

I'm talking about Solution Architect roles in companies like AWS/ Google/ Microsoft/ Databricks/ Snowflake, etc.

What does the TC look like for such roles in Canada (Toronto area)?

Current TC: 165k CAD
YOE: 8

At AWS you'd probably enter as L5 (maybe L6 if you have a super strong background), I imagine TC would be between 220-250k. Let me know if you want a referral.

  • @T-Mobile nailed it. That's about the ceiling for SAs, some are potentially around $220k.

Now if you go post sales and can code (still within professional services), you can make some decent money. My situation is a bit unique but i was able to work post sales as a DevOps engineer for 310k TC (4yoe). Although, my circumstance is not reflective of the broader market it does give an insight into just how much companies want to pay

Yes that's in line roughly with what I'm making, but I don't really intend to move to SWE roles although I'm well aware that they are likely to pay a higher TC to SWEs. So I'm curious to know what the TC can be at one of the big public cloud firms/ unicorn data firms based out of the US that hire in Canada.
