Interviewing at Github. What is it like to work there? What's the TC for senior roles? Pros, cons? Honestly, don't like Ruby so what teams don't use Ruby?

GitHub historically used Ruby, but now there are other languages such as Go, Python, C#. Low level Git stuff can use languages like C. Frontend is TypeScript gradually transitioned from plain JavaScript.

@euni are there any areas/products you would recommend as particularly promising? Any areas/products you would recommend staying away from?

Personally I prefer working on developer tools. I prefer being close to customer experience, not too deep in the stack.

Anything that relates to the developer cloud is the most important thing right now.

Codespaces, Copilot. But they are not necessarily products most would work on.

Many dread the enterprise cloud offering. Because it is very complex and painful to work with.

Up to you if you want to work with the usual things like Issues, Pull Requests, etc.

Another area of growth lately is in Security. Not necessarily as security engineer, but helping build things that support security features.

I wonder, does git hub use git hub for source control?

I’d second op. I saw you have data engineering jobs, what’s the stack for it? It mentions python and go, do you really use them for data, or is it something else?
