Work permit Berlin

Apr 28 4 Comments

We are planning to move to Berlin in coming months. I have two options for work permit/ visa.
1. Go on family reunion visa with my husband, his company is offering fast track visa
2. We obtain separate visas based on our offers - my company doesn't offer fast track

Are there any complications in converting family reunion visa to work visa/blue card?
Any idea on time it takes for fast track and normal processing of visa from India?

If your husband gets a blue card, go on family reunion, as your visa will allow you work in whatever you want from the get go (whenever you both go to auslanderbehorde and get the actual blue card thingie, while already in Germany).

If your husband is getting a work permit, its a different can of worms. In that case you will likely need to do german classes up to b1 level + an integration course that will teach you about Germany in General. This lasts at least 8 months, doing 5 days a week in the morning. Until you are done with this you can’t legally work on a work permit family reunion visa.

  • My partner had a Blue card visa and I got a family reunion visa, which allow me to work full time. In my experience, I advise you to move to Berlin only when you get a job offer. People here are not welcoming compared in America or Canada.
