I guess this had been discussed and sort of semi concluded that it's better to buy rather than wait.

But, looking at the housing prices of shit holes in Bay area and a feeling that even a house on top of the miliptas dumpster(obv exaggeration) would cost around million, considering the scenario of a housing bubble (smaller scale).
Also, the data in this link seems to indicate a correction every 6-7 years which seems to be due in 2018-2019

Any thoughts?

  • If this follows the 95 and 01 busts, prices still have room to run before declining to something that is more than current prices. Timing the market is hard.

And this person is why we won't have a correction that's significant. If market dipped 10% it'd quickly rebound.

Don't try and time the market.

    • People have been saying that about seattle for the last couple years. Those same people have been missing out on almost 100% appreciation.

  • People are very good at finding patterns in insufficient data. You could have made the same argument a year ago and you would have lost out on 15% appreciation. Don’t try to time the market and don’t ever be too confident in predictions in either direction.

    • I guess what I’m saying is look at the fundamentals of home ownership: Do you want to live there? Do you plan to live there for at least a few years?
