I have 15 combined of retail work experience from Target, Amazon, and Macy's with expertise in Stores, D2C Fulfillment, and Last Mile Delivery. How ever you slice it, its all RETAIL (non-technical) and I want OUT. Has anyone had any luck transitioning into a mid to senior-level role with FAANG or any non-retail company? If so, please help! Thank you
Lol thatās on you for wasting your time doing that for so long, did you study anything technical in the meantime???
You worked as a floor salesman and now want to join fang in a technical role lol?
Well technically he has experience at one of the big 4 so he's almost there lol
Big4? I'm finding myself in a similar situation. 12 yrs non-tech retail, pharmacy, HR, & management experience, trying to escape the black hole that is retail.
I also have my MBA in project management, L6S certificate, and struggling to find anything
Lol...L6s...
Iām in the same boat as you with all retail experience for the past 8-ish years and havenāt had much success trying to move to non retail. Will see if anyone else here had better luck and has some tips.
Start with a retail PM role at Amazon and move to other roles from there. It will take some time, but if you really want it, that is one way to get it.
I echo this. Have been in retail for 4years now. Moved to PgM role recently. Want to branch out to TPM or Product management. Have CS & MBA degree.
PS: I did this. Donāt want to share identifying info, but over ten years in corporate retail, move to Amazon in retail, now managing tech.
the easy route is merchandizing in a retail teams to product management in increasingly technical roles. harder, but more interesting imo, is something in supply chain management transitioning to the SCOT org .
Thereās plenty of other operational teams as well, under Dave Clark. Lots of nontechnical program managers and a path to get more technical progressively.
"I have too much experience in Amazon. Does anyone have a job for me at FANG (which includes Amazon)?" - based on this alone... No.
