Hi A company is really interested in my profile and although I've not gone to their onsite interview yet, I believe they will extend a full time offer with salary >$100k. This role will be based out of Minneapolis. The job is the same as what I do now (I'm not into software/CS). This company is into renewable energy. My current employer does pay me less than what I'm worth, but they have an office in Toronto and India as well so I can move to either of these places if my H1B doesn't get picked up/approved (some colleagues have moved to Toronto when their visa didn't work out). I have only two tries remaining for H1B. I'm currently in the DC area. I'm thinking that I should just continue with my current company, and then switch once I have H1B. What do you guys think? Current TC <$80k Role: analyst YOE: 1 Any advice is greatly appreciated!
There are no job guarantees
Why not attend interview and ask them if you can work outside USA if visa don’t work out??
Hmm nice. Yeah I think I will do that... Thanks!
If I understand it right you are looking at 2 prospective employers(including the current one) filing for H1B. And you have this year and the next for H1 attempt until OPT runs out. Did I miss anything? Why not go for both and have both file this March/April? Either ways you can only start in October or later (based on when H1 is approved). Do you see any risks with that?
I'm currently employed by (ICF) and it is going to file for H1B this year. The other employer (who is offering increased pay) will also file for me when I join. I never heard of a company filing for work visa for a prospective employee. I'm still interviewing with them. Are you sure that can happen?
R u not on OPT now? What is the current work permit status in DC for you? L1?
job guarantee is more important if the first company is risky
It's not risky per se. Just that the company that's offering me the higher salary doesn't have an office in Toronto/india
how are you evaluating risk? Does the company have a history of layoffs? Is the culture good? You can use glass door as a proxy
