I've been in commercial sales at Microsoft for 4 years while attending University for a BS in Information Systems. I have always been a top performer on my team and placed 1st in many metrics, but my end goal has always been to be in a technical role. I've been interested in Database Engineering or CyberSecurity Consulting as possible career paths that would allow me to still code and be technical. Unfortunately, aside from school and side hobbying, I don't have any technical experience in the workplace. How do I get my resume noticed when applying to these roles? What could I put that would differentiate me? Is a sales background at all valuable to these hiring managers?
Also, look into SE roles in your current org. More technical.
Take a TSP or SSP or similar position first.
Is it easier to get into a Product Group role from there? I'm concerned that if I took a SSP role that it would cement a sales career path for me.

Those types of roles have a lot of certifications available, as opposed to general software developer roles. Certs in technologies you are interested in could help to prove a base layer of knowledge
