Hi Folks First time here... so take it easy on me. I got an invite for phone interview for a TAM role. The job is in Herndon, VA. It is TS/SCI/CI Poly cleared. I have 25 years in IT. 5 years in Dev and 20 years in Test Automation. About to take SA Pro cert exam - probably end of this moth. Someone already asked about this role and it seems that: 1 - It does not pay much; 2 - You need a psychology degree in order to herd cats. Is that correct? And what is TC given my years of experience? Thanks!
Lol 1) TAMs when coded appropriately make on par with Solutions Architects and Cloud Consultants. 2) what cats are you herding? TAMs are the main POCs for accounts which in your case is a government account. Your job is to be their go to guy/gal and reduce the number of TTs submitted if possible. You're supposed to be smart enough to help the customer with their problems and see around corners to help them find the best solution long term. Not sure where the psychology degree comes in. You're talking about an MVP role with a clearance bonus and extra bonuses if you are able to do the on call rotation. Last thing, YOE isnt an indicator of success. Not sure how you got your poly but I see a bunch of officers with minimal hands on experience, staff NCOs with outdated skills, and NCOs with experience managing 1 NIPR and 1 SIPR service where as AWS works at scale with fleets of thousands of servers. If you have the experience great, you're looking at an L5/L6 TAM role and if coded correctly you'll make more than a GS-13 or O-4ish
I do E-4 maybe E-5 ... I need to move out of the help desk ..lol
How did it go? Did you get an offer?
I have no idea what 2 is referring to. Explain? Also it does not pay *as much* as SDE/SWE which has historically been the case with programmers being the more/most highly paid role in technology.
Someone makes a joke about TAM role. He/she meant that you need to have a psychology degree in order to handle the headache that customers throw at you :-) Thanks for the response!. What do you think the max TC that role could make? Given that I'm TS/SCI/CI poly cleared, I gather that they would pay more for the clearance? Thanks
Depends on the level. TAMs are paid slightly less than SA just because they are part of the support org. And no, I have not heard that clearance pays more.
