TC 280k Recruiter called to discuss an offer and pushed me to give an answer tomorrow morning. She knows I have other interviews ongoing Friday and next week so guessing she wants me to close without holding other offers? what would you advise to say to buy more time or nego for more? offered TC 330k
Push back. They most likely won’t rescind your offer. Is the company your first choice?
Tell them the numbers they offered aren’t what you were expecting and go dark. They will come up without you giving a number. Once they do, start negotiating from the higher number — not the lower.
say yes, 330k is high enough to accept if u dont have better ones. recruiter has other candidates and dont want to join bidding war.
the risk is if u dont accept, u may lose this offer.
The rules for negotiating an offer are that, if you failed and gave them your numbers before they gave you theirs, you must accept if their offer is equal or higher and can only accept or decline their numbers. It's ok to tell them that you can't accept for now and will get back to them after Hooli gets back. You can earnestly admit you were a moron and want $foo instead, but you'd better grovel. If you were proper and let them give numbers first, you are allowed exactly one counter. It must be "in range" at level (so you'd better understand the comp/stock/sign-on/benefit range at-level: here's where Blind isn't a diseased cesspool). You must be prepared to walk away. If anyone tells you you don't need to know the range and that you can go back and forth multiple times, thank them for their advice and say a little prayer for them tonight, knowing your friend is underpaid roughly $75k per year TC in the current market. Recruiters are great people who get paid less than and will be laid off before you. Do be a jerk. If all this sounds hard, take the job where you'll learn most: you're not senior enough to have maxed out your earning potential (otherwise this would sound obvious not hard), so it's far more important to get better.
This guy negotiates.
Accept now, decline when (and if) you have better offers. Be the same jerk as the recruiter.
lol, appreciate the comment but don’t want to mess up the relationship going forward
