I have been SDE at Amazon for about 4 years. I got promoted to SDE2 last year. I see people switching companies and it seems like they make a lot more money when moving to other companies like Google. Is it a bad idea for me to stay with Amazon much longer? I'm 34 years old and making around 200k this year from salary and stock, my main concern is if I'm underpayed. I'm in Seattle
200K for an SDE 2 is a good number at amazon. If you’re not satisfied with the number or work, consider a switch.
If you get offer form Gooog, FB, Box, Twitter or LinkedIn you will be making 60k more at least per year. You get more equity if you get offers from Uber, Lyft etc. if you want more money just interview with other companies.
Definitely underpaid
Leave now .. can’t believe you make just 200k as an SDE2 at Amazon
Definitely time to look around. Once you have some offers on the table, then you can make the best decision about whether to take one of them it stay where you are. Don't make the same mistake I did by going 11 years without even looking around for other job opportunities.

Yes you can always be making a bit more. You need to find a balance of what matters to you. At L4 you can make 250 or so.
