Offer 1: SDE 2 at Amazon Alexa Offer 2: Software engineer (not SR) at LinkedIn LinkedIn's offer is 10% more than Amazon. Both are in Bay area. I have 5 years of experience + masters which is not relevant to software. I want to get SW development experience to improve my profile. My opinion is that LinkedIn has a better reputation and a friendlier place for a newbie. I am just not able to judge how valuable Alexa brand is. Please share your thoughts.
LinkedIn hands down.! People have been leaving my team and joining Google, LinkedIn ..left and right . Amazon has one of the worst WLB (lots of friends working there) LInkedIn has the best WLB ( ex colleagues from my team) , wonderful work culture , great pay and best of all - free food!
To those who know. Perks, culture, WLB, insanely good food...
LinkedIn Senior is SDE2 elsewhere, so you in Amazon you get Higher level, better growth opportunities with strong company growth, better product, the amount opportunities inside Amazon is huge, you can transfer to other teams such as AWS or others, tons of opportunities. LinkedIn? Except some free food perks I don't see any reason. If that's an supper exciting project/team then it is another story.
The Linkedjn position is in the Applications team. It is not super special. Thanks for the wonderful advice, really appreciate it. My understanding was that growth opportunities were better in Linkedin. I have a friend who moved to LI from Amazon who thinks LI's engineering practices and talent is better. I was also thinking Amazon/Alexa has become too big that the growth phase might end soon. Now, after reading your input, I am beginning to wonder again. For someone starting, which brand can add more value to the profile?
I’ve done extremely cool things @AWS.,. Don’t known if LI can offer that kind of projects. Of course definition of growth can be different people to people.
If you just care about these rest and vest WLB then ignore what I said
Ya . Projecy/ team Matters the most.
LinkedIn's pay and benefits are top tier and comparable to G/F But at the end of the day it's about the team and project you wanna work on
LinkedIn has 20k more benefits than Amazon (401k match, perk up, insurance, espp, free food)
LinkedIn in most cases. Amazon sde2 roughly maps to senior in LinkedIn (there is a wide spread across teams though. There are several LI senior engineers that are sde3 level). But you should be able to get promo soon. And that would mean even more money. So LinkedIn is better long term.
LinkedIn with your eyes closed. Amazon is a rough place to work, try to avoid. You can be fired anytime. Only reason to work in Amazon is if you don’t have any other offers.
Both are good. Pick one you think better align with your interests.
