If your highschooler plans on taking laptop to school I'd look at lighter 13" models. Highschool backpack is heavy as it is and lugging around 15" brick is not fun. I.e. about 2.5 years ago I bought kiddo Asus zenbook 13" i5 8gb/256gb SSD for 700. It is still being used actively and not too heavy to take to school daily. Screen is good and matte so usable in any light, touchpad is so-so. I bet there is an updated model now at about the same price range. If price is not a problem check Dell XPS 13". Or MacBook pro. Other than that, check Dell and Lenovo outlet stores online. If you are lucky you'll get refurbished higher end laptop (I.e. latitude or XPS) for similar or slightly higher price. It will handle daily use better.

Mac book pro. All the way

I think 13 inch is the way to go. 15 inch is too heavy. And yes, MacBook Pro is the best.

I should add that Windows 10 running on MacBook Pro is awesome.

Is there a big difference between i5 core and i7core

Facebook admins_mom Feb 18, 2018

Yes. Will someone in high-school notice the difference? No. Does anyone need an i7 to read email/browse/watch netflix? No. If this is for learning how to program, I'd actually say the shittier the machine the better. The slower the machine, the less you can get away with when it comes to writing shitty code. Not that i7 vs i5 really makes a difference for that usecase.
