I'm currently at 160 base and 210 TC at Amazon(7 years of total experience). I'm a SDE II(L5) and I'm a full stack engineer with 5 years of startup experience and 2 years at Google as application engineer(I'm also working on deep learning from 8 months and also have a deep learning nano degree and nano degree in self driving car, not sure if it's of any value to the company though). Like most people, I work extremely hard at Amazon, over 14 hours everyday and on several weekend's. I'm not sure if this is standard for an SDE II or am I being taken advantage of for not negotiating better? Can someone help me out without being sarcastic or rude.
You’re not being taken advantage of
He is. For 14 hours of work a day, he’s essentially being paid the rate of somebody who makes $105k TC.
For Seattle that TC is great.. for Bay Area it is decent.. Microsoft seniors make similar TC here.. as long as you don’t keep comparing with San Francisco’s salaries or Facebook Netflix salaries 😀
TC is good for Seattle
Stop working 14 hour days that is absurd
I meant to add you can get that comp with lower work days...I’d be more concerned with wlb
Full stack engineer still a thing?
Master of none
I am SDE2 with 5 YOE, slightly higher TC than you, and I work 8 hour days and no weekends. Working that much is fine if you want to, but don’t neglect the other important things in life.
TC is good for Seattle, and is just above average for Bay Area. As other commenters have pointed out, you are being taken advantage of in work-life balance. Jump ship, get better TC, and be happy.
The TC is fine, if you stop working 14 hours a day. And stop working on weekends. They’re not paying you for that. You can start freelancing after hours or on weekends, and earn 500k+ in total.
