Need some career advice

Dec 8, 2019 8 Comments

Hi all,

I am really in need of some great career advice. I have been working as a security engineer to pay my bills after my graduation from a Masters degree in CS and an undergraduate from one of the IITs. But my dream was to work as an ML engineer. I have done coursework in ML at my school and a nanodegree from Udacity in Data Science and ML. However, I find it very hard to break into the field. What advice would you have for me to break into FAANG as an ML engineer? What path should I take?

Not at all, first acquire the knowledge (which it seems you already have some). Then work on personal, open source projects, or even better, try to somehow include the term ML in any of your work projects (even if that’s a stretch). That should be all you need to be considered for a ML-related position. You still have to go through the interviews...

It seems like it would be easier to become a ML engineer at Visa if you're already performing well there, and then go to the company you want once you have some experience, instead of trying to change jobs and go to a really desirable employer at the same time.
