I have been working in Software development for the last 4 years. I am in my fourth job currently and I haven't resigned from even one of them. All of them are because of circumstances that is not in my hands - bankruptcy, closing of group, acquisition. I am in a visa and cannot be unemployed for more than 2 months. So I didn’t have a luxury of choosing the jobs that I was interested in and took any development job that I got. I worked as full stack engineer, tools engineer, network engineer, and currently quality engineer writing automated tests. I wasn’t excited to join any of the job other than my first job. I feel like I am going nowhere in my career with my legs on different works and nothing concrete to show on my resume. I want to be working on big infrastructure/scaling or something more challenging. Most job interviews I get rejected because of either lack of experience working in distributed large scale product or citing my lack of continuity in a job. I am not sure how do I go about this. I feel the longer I go on with what I am doing that harder it is going to be. I have been working my ass off reading about scalable architectures and concepts but it is no substitute for actual experience. I do not want to be the low level developer who is easily disposable. How do I approach this? I am ready to move a level down and learn stuff and accept less salary if it means I am doing something more interesting and the work that I like. How do I approach this? Any help would be greatly welcome TC 140k YOE 4.5 yrs
4yoe with 2 months of leetcode can get you in FAANG , don’t accept offers which don’t excite you
I wish I could wait to accept offers. Every time I was in a situation where I need to get a job within a month or 2. So didn't have option of choosing the ones that excite me.
