Hey all, I’m struggling with figuring out what I want to do / team I want to work for / company I want to work at. Currently I’m working at FB and I got promoted from e3 to E4 with GE. 160k target salary (with bonus) and roughly 44k in stock per year. I like the work on my team and teammates and I think there’s scope on my team to grow to senior but I’m tired of commuting, worry that my skill set is getting outdated (objc), and my equity grant is kind of on the lower side I’ve considered interviewing at other companies or moving out to other offices but I don’t know if it’s worth my time to interview or try out something different. Would love to get some feedback from others on their opinion.
Find out what is the motivation for you to leave? If you are going out because u feel you can't keep up with the constant uphill battle then going to another startup wont help. You could find one of the bigger companies like oracle, salesforce, sap where pay is average but you don't have to worry about work. If you want higher pay, you have to be ready to sweat it out. List top 3 things you want in your new job and then decide. In this day and age, it doesn't matter how senior you are, in a startup style company you can't except much on title
Come to SNAP exFBs are treated like demigods here and we need experienced ObjC/C++. No doubt you'll have great impact also they will blow your TC out the water. PM me for referrals.
Do they generally compensate you guys when stock goes down?
Also curious about compensation when stock goes down?

Salesforce SMTS vs Google L4
Will change company solve your commuting issue? Why not stay at FB until you get E5? ObjC is not outdated, Apple will continue to support it many years given lots of large company has not been committed to swift yet. e.g. FB
Yeah changing companies will solve it. And yeah staying at FB until e5 is something I’ve considered. I don’t know it feels like obj-c is out and Swift is in tbh
I have fresh grad friend that went from E3 to E5 within two years. You got high career growth at FB and higher leverage when jump ship from E5 level. Generally, it is much harder to get promoted from mid level to senior in other companies, e.g. Google
