In tech companies such as FAANGMULA and other top companies like Nvidia/Qualcomm/AMD, vacation time scales with the number of years spent with your current company. If you change jobs every few years, you will only be entitled to around 2 weeks of vacation time per year as a new employee at these companies. Has anyone at top tech companies ever tried to negotiate vacation time? If yes, how much additional time per year were you able to receive in your offer? Also mention the country.
Come and join Indeed. We have unlimited PTO and no one cares about the number of leaves you take as long as you perform well and meet expectations
Curious on that note, how long do you and your coworkers actually take? Is something like a month to a month and a half off ever unheard of? Is there also a minimum amount of "forced" PTO, so at least people aren't incentivized to never call out if they're new, or in departments that regularly have tight schedules?
As policy not possible. You can negotiate this directly with your HM that you will take a certain number of days unpaid vacation each year. And then get the base salary that is high enough even considering said unpaid days.
Come to Qualcomm. Unlimited PTO
Just take unpaid leave. I take ~1month unpaid leave on average every year. Negotiate your salary to compensate that, if you want.
Facebook has 21 days paid vacation, unlimited sick time, and standard holidays.
That’s almost always non-negotiable
That's my first impression as well, but I posted a poll just to see how many people even tried. This could be a case of no one trying, which creates the illusion of impossibility or rareness.
