How difficult is to negotiate level with MSFT recruiter? Any help is appreciated! YOE: 4 Current TC: 160K Level offered: 60
Why do you think you should negotiate level?
Because she told me this level is for entry level and I have 4 yoe with Masters degree.
So? Is it a bump in comp? Higher level isn’t something you should go for without a really good reason.
Microsoft levels start at 59 in general. I have seen 57/58 too. You could stretch to 61, all they can. Say is mo😛
It all depends on the skill required in the job, and what you’re bringing to the table.
Based on interview and job requirement, it matches what I have been doing from 5+ years
I have seen many people get very quick promotions who were underleveled at joining.

I do know someone who successfully negotiated level, but it was still in same band.

Op I have 2 yoe in US and 1.5 yoe in India when I got the offer, they lowballed me by giving 59, my interview went well, I was confident and negotiated. Got 61 finally. Go for it, ask the HR to increase your level, no harm utmost they say is no. You should get 62 I feel. Good luck.

This is bullshit low-ball. Someone with 4 years is MINIMUM 61, probably can go upto 62. I'm assuming you're MTS-3 or Sr.MTS at VMware. Ignorant people here need to check up "levels.fyi" before trolling.
Yes MTS-3. I also feel its equivalent to 61/62 at Microsoft.
I was able to get the level up to 61, from the 60 that they offered me initially. 3 YOE. But I was also willing to reject L60 which I made more than clear to them.

Best negotiation tactic I have used or known people to use is to quote a number higher than what you’re willing to accept. If they offer lower than the quote, even then you might be at or close to your real target. Key here is be willing to walk away if they really lowball you. Right now Azure is hiring like crazy and we need more people than we have, so do keep that in mind.
Ask for 61.
What TC did they offer?
Just got the verbal offer. They have not told me the numbers yet.
