Is it possible to negotiate for a lower travel percentage in an analytics consultant role at Deloitte? #consulting #deloitte #travel #negotiation
If you don’t wanna travel, don’t go that route
I don’t mind the travel. I just won’t be able to do 50% or more. I’d love up to 25 or 30%
If they say 50% they actually mean mon-thurs every week.
There’s no guarantee for %ge of travel it could go up to 100^
It is definitely 100%. Don’t believe them if they say they are ok with 50% travel. They will day later that the client is requesting to travel every week. If you are ok with 100% then join.
You’re not going to be able to get it written into your contract because it’ll be project dependent. But you could absolutely network to get on projects that are local. Also the future of traveling is going to look different. There’s a lot of talk at the leadership level about giving people more flexibility in determining how much they travel. Nothing has been set in stone yet. And no one is traveling until at least January, even then you could always say you’re concerned about the virus and not travel.
In consulting, travel is unavoidable and necessary.
Congratulations! Could you please share your TC and YOE? Thanks!
What level? You'll never get it in writing, but travel is definitely being reduced a lot post Covid. I think it will be a few days at client site per month, few days for collab in hub office, rest at home. We are never going back to M-Th every week despite what other posters are saying.
They’re bringing me in on the Consultant level
Yeah I am doubt you will ever see more than 50% travel max and I'd say even less. Dan, the ceo of consulting, was already pushing for reduced travel before covid. We have had a dozen calls with him where he repeatedly says we will be traveling much much less. In particular for SC and below
You can not negotiate travel formally. Travel will be based on what projects you get put on. You could get put on a local project and have 0 travel or an out of town with 100% travel for a few months. It’s all dependent on what the projects is & where it’s located.
For the most part, no, based on my experience. You can network to get a local project though
Not sure how this works but who would I talk to in regards to being placed on local clients?
Talk to the recruiter first. It depends on if you are in a major city where they have big clients. If so, the better chance to get on a local project. But if you come in from the start stating you have travel limitations, you may not get considered. Be honest though or you will get dumped quickly if they can't staff you locally.
