I think I might’ve screwed myself. I’ve recently been interviewing and received my first offer. When speaking to the hiring manager, she asked what I would like to be compensated. I told her 90-93k. She ended up offering 95k. Does this mean I screwed myself or they’re just being “generous”? How can we know? You didn’t give us any info, like title, level, company, location, YOE.

You screwed yourself. Never throw out the first number. Always let them come back with an offer. If she is offering you 95K, it may be .90 comp ratio in her company at your level. That’s what most companies aim to get new employees at. So you may have been able to negotiate a higher number but if you earn 95K, you won’t have gone too far. Maybe 100K+
@ppMg64, this is profoundly bad advice. The anchoring effect says that in a symmetric information negotiation, the first person to throw out a number has a profound impact on the final negotiated value. Given the wealth of TC information available these days, there’s no reason a motivated interviewee can’t throw out a number just under the interviewer’s walk away number. FYI, business schools have classes on basic negotiation theory, I highly recommend.
Be happy. You got more than your expectation and desire
Only in the world of blind would getting more than you asked for is being “screwed.”
Is this a cleared job? If it is, what level of clearance?
Get another offer. Decline this one.
I have another offer for 90k. Why you say this ?
