I passed HC and senior exec approval at Google for L4, starting the team match process this week. I haven’t interviewed anywhere else, I just took the Google interviews when the recruiter reached out because well, it’s Google! Will it be possible for me to at least negotiate higher than my current TC, without going and getting competing offers? I’d really rather not waste my time doing a bunch of interviews if I can just negotiate with Google alone. Position is for the Bay Area. TC: 250k YOE: 4
How high can G go for L4? I dont think it will be a lot higher than your current TC.
Yeah kind of stuck in this weird middle ground. I’m maybe 8 months from promo to senior, but my WLB is pretty rough. So I’m debating jumping ship even if it’s only for a 20k bump in TC, just for an improvement in WLB and no oncall.
Our oncall sucks, got 30 pages last week. Half in middle of night.
Isn't your current role a competing offer? What you currently have is at least leverage for them to beat it.
That’s a fair point actually, hadn’t looked at it from that perspective. Not unemployed / desperate for a job.
Can’t leverage current TC. I know I tried. You need a competing offer, and don’t ever think of lying cause G asks for evidence even when it comes to just numbers.
in process to get an offer for L3. Gave google two higher offers but google ignore all of it. Yes, no change at all. So… idk what google is doing in terms of matching competing offers now.
Sorry that this is not an answer to your question. What role did you apply to get interviewed for L4? I didn't see any general SWE job posting for L4. Also, were you initially considered for both L3/L4 roles? Would you also be able to share the difficulty of the interviews?
Always say you have other offers
Feels so weird to lie about that. I told the recruiter right at the beginning that I’m not actively interviewing, I’m pretty comfortable in my current role.
Am I screwed now, or is it not too late to say that I am interviewing / have offers elsewhere?
