5 year support commitment… I’ve lost all trust in Google products. Thought they would actually maintain a security system but no, cancelled like all their other devices. Will never buy another Google device. #tech #google #security #nest
I'm not following. What happened?
They’ve been discontinuing Nest products with no plans to follow up. Also, just came out saying they’d only support for 5 years. Many products are well on their way to the five year point since they haven’t been updating the devices much. They had amazing products for their time. Then they stopped developing them. No new updates while competitors stormed ahead. Just a huge waste to buy into the nest ecosystem.
not understanding this. This blog seems to indicate you get an additional 5 years starting from today?
Exactly. Decided to never buy a Google device after nest and nexus phone.
What's wrong with nexus?
The power button issue that caused many devices to go to boot loop. Should have been a class action, but didn't have time to pursue it. I know that it was manufactured by LG. I would still blame Google for not supporting customers.
Was about to buy a nest thermostat . Glad I didn’t . Have the nest router and that works great though
Google is where products go to die
What should one get for a security camera? I was first thinking Ring, but concerned about the privacy and being owner by Amazon, plus that it's cloud-centric, what even happens if your internet is down during a break-in? Was leaning towards Nest cameras, but they don't seem that much better. Wish there was a product that supported local AI and upload into your own SSH server or something.
Let me know if you find one.
Ring is pretty much the best one even considering the cons.
What is this whining about exactly
Dude google products always fail hard (the hardware ones)
Who buys devices from google?
This is what happens when your workforce is exclusively white and white-adjacent cisgendered men.
Pretty sure Google is mostly Asians but sure
Asians are white adjacent and NOT included when we talk about DEI.

Modi is the worst dictator!
I’m surprised that you were using Google devices to begin with as an Amazon employee. I haven’t used much of Amazon’s devices so I can’t really say if they are better or worse
This isn’t really a this or that conversation. Focused on Nest.
Nest had great products. Not saying otherwise. Google just handled it terribly.
