I am kind of inclining towards Nordstrom because of the location. I haven't negotiated with Nordstrom yet and have a verbal offer from Oracle but, not sure if those numbers will stick, I'm gonna leave Oracle out of this post for now. Nordstrom Location: Seattle Base: 115k (Haven't negotiated yet) No RSUs for Eng 1 position Sign on - 10 K Relocation - 5 K Drawbacks - Haven't been matched to a team yet, the recruiter says they'll match only after I accept the offer, and no RSUs NetApp Location: Pittsburgh, PA Base: 115k (Have negotiated and it looks like they'll not increase it anymore) RSU: <$14k per year Sign on - 10 K Relocation - 7 K Drawbacks - Role includes 50% DevOps (I do not know if I love it 100%) and 50% development. Pro - Loved the team and they seemed very kind and helpful during the interviews. YoE 1 Current TC: Peanuts #engineering #software #swe
Honestly, netapp makes sense. I would suggest you strongly negotiate with Nordstrom by telling them about the offer you have with netapp and it’s location. But even if they were to offer you 130k in Seattle, it’s still a loss because PA is much cheaper. I’m not sure how Nordstrom can beat netapp.
Thanks! I'll try negotiating as much as I can.. but, netapp offer is not bad is it?
Netapp is definitely more in line with MTS 2 offer whereas Nordstrom offered you what it offers to its new grads. Idk about netapp tech stack but Nordstrom does have a modern tech stack and great engineering practices. The only way I can see Nordstrom being worthy of consideration in terms of TC is if you can get Nordstrom to offer you 130 or 135k base and then with bonus it’ll become 143 or 148k which then would be in line with your PA offer. This is totally from money pov. You also need to think about where you want to live. If location doesn’t matter then netapp is the stronger offer. If location does matter then you will have to negotiate hard with Nordstrom.
Yes good netapp offer budd
NetApp is probably better on your resume than Nordstrom.
Oracle better than both of these IMO, they also pay more too. Pittsburg is much cheaper but was hit hard by covid so there’s not much there rn, city feels dead. Seattle has many companies you can interview with in case you need to go on site in the future, the only other company I can think of in Pitts is Duolingo.
I would strongly recommend Nordstrom. The engineering experience you will gain here would be industry leading. You will also get good work life balance, compensation, and good culture. 50% devops after one year of work experience, that is bad for your career at such an early stage. Plus, you will get so many more opportunities in Seattle area. There are a lot of smart people at Nordstrom. And fuck NetApp anyways
E1 has 10% target bonus at Nordstrom. You should consider that in your overall TC. That's a standard offer for E1 at Nordstrom, it would be hard to get more without VP exception.
Strongly consider Nordstrom. We have a modern stack and good engineering standards. Can negotiate E1 offer further, both base and sign-on bonus
In my experience they didn’t seem to budge that much lol. Slightly increased the base and that’s it.
I was able to double my sign-on and increased base pretty well too. I had a counter offer tho
Netapp tc might go long way in Pa than your Seattle offer.
