Have read a few posts but not seen any concrete answers. I want to know how does Netflix handle terminating H1B employees and do they keep em on payroll for the well publicized 4 month period ? About me, got an offer as a senior sw engineer TC 380 plus 5% in options which is around 30% more than what I make here.
4 month severance pkg is true. I wouldn’t risk H1B on nflx tho
Go do it. It’s much better than working at Facebook or pretty much any other company that give just 30 day notice. No one and I repeat no one has a 4 month severance. They will happily keep your H1B status for 4 months. I would recommend asking HR. They are a no bull shit culture and majority of the talent is reasonable.
I’m not sure about keeping one on H1B status for 4 months, if it’s a one time lump sum payout to leave then it’s not. Your payroll needs to run for 4 months and that’s what important on H1B.
That’s why I recommend asking HR. They would happily run payroll if they are going to payout 4 months salary imho.
Would love to hear experiences you may have experienced or have seen people go through. I’m considering interviewing there, I’m confident if I get hired I can do well; but there is a chance things may not go as expected and wonder what happens if you are let go on H1B. Money is great, 4 month severance is great, but the stress of getting let go the same day and having 60 days to start payroll elsewhere with kids to take care of is making me nervous and not take the risk.
The 60 days is true at most places :) Netflix won’t burn bridges with H1Bs else no H1B would work there.
Anyone from Netflix or an Ex-Netflix employee have any opinions on this ?
@OP were you able to negotiate the initial offer from Netflix ?
Got it this Friday so nothing more yet I have a call with them to talk about it, they want me to figure out how much I am worth with documented proof and base negotiations on that
No one on Blind that got let go from Netflix?
They don’t keep ur h1 active for 4 months. U only get 4 months severance. They used to keep it active for a month or so but not anymore
There you go! Thanks, this is what I feared. I guess it depends on manager as well, they might give you hints in advance before they pull the trigger
You definitely know way in advance if you are not doing well. They give u enough warnings to improve. And you can always tell from your 1:1s with your manager. The reason they stopped letting people stay on is cause Now on h1b you have a 60 day period to find another job
@op, did u join Netflix?
Yoe?
