Netflix culture questions

Folks suggest that the Netflix onsite will be culture-heavy. Any specific advice that’ll help in tackling those questions? Any red flags or dos and donts? Is it important to emphasize relevant/recent/high impact projects as examples, or is it more important to cite different examples to show more experience?

Culture q’s from Netflix are to see if you know the industry (ott video), are passionate about the industry, know the competitors, and also to see if you will survive in a culture of independence (self sufficient), compatible with having no processes to follow, looking to ensure you are curious and intelligent... and lastly, good at fitting in... and being calm. Too maverick.. fired. Do your job and shut up.. good.

Curious how leveling works.. i know every software engineer has the same title but they must have some internal leveling to calibrate pay etc. For example, no one has asked me about my current level at Amazon. How would one demonstrate this at the interviews? And is one interview more important than the other to demonstrate this? For eg. the interview with hiring manager vs with VP.

There is no internal leveling at Netflix. Your manager determines your salary based on how you interviewed. Highly skilled, highly desireable, high pay. Senior Engineer salary range is highly variable at Netflix.

Does Netflix expect technical PM to know media industry or ask tech industry knowledge like goog, amzn,fb

Best way to prep for culture related interviews is to read the culture page on the website. Study it hard. Think of examples from your career that demonstrated aspects of that culture.

Does Netflix have a minimum requirement for number of years of experience for what they consider "senior"? I've been in cloud for 4.5 years and I'm considering applying since I love working in this domain and learning about distributed systems outside of work as well, just not sure if they have some arbitrary cut off like "must have >= 7yrs experience" or something. Is a referral also necessary or can I just apply online and hope my resume speaks for itself?

Different manager has different criteria but no absolute YOE. It is about what you achieved in the 4.5 years
