Umm...why is there a picture of trump? Did he get her pregnant?

Roche DwxD41 OP Apr 7, 2019

I have no idea why blind selected that picture :/

Because Dolan Drumpf is empowering these horrible sexists. It would never happen under President Clinton (who, by the way, won the popular vote and was the most qualified candidate in history).

Tesla Xk28z Apr 7, 2019

Wow this is horrid

Oracle pzd Apr 7, 2019

Also, just allegations at this point.

It's not about companies. It's people

BlackRock xis Apr 7, 2019

Its about companies. It’s not bad apples. There are rules that are established by the firm - rules pertaining to sexual harassment and not harassing and firing a pregnant lady. Managers are supposed to be extensively trained about respect at workplace and to not speak out of their ass. This is why you need to keep training people again and again, at least every 3 months.

Google Dfsalmon Apr 7, 2019

While training is great, you’re still going to get shitty people that don’t learn. I think it’s even more important to have rules in place on how to handle such situations. According to the article(obviously only one side of the story) she tried to tell hr and tried to switch teams but was unable to. If this is true, Netflix should have rules in place on how to handle this better, as well as teach employees the correct course of action in such a situation.

Terrible

BlackRock xis Apr 7, 2019

A company as rich as Netflix is stupid for not establishing ground rules. If Netflix has 1% of its staff pregnant every year that would be 0.5 % of all salaries that it has pay out extra (6 months 300k annual median) : 15 million. Netflix last year revenue was 15 billion. But I guess Netflix loves its money and fanatics a little too much. It just exemplifies gladiatorial slavery. Cautionary tale for both parties. Work life balance pays less. Some firms go to extreme lengths to encroach on your productivity.

Facebook tGTv63 Apr 7, 2019

Wasn't Netflix maternity leave one year?

Netflix bread Apr 7, 2019

@xis You clearly know nothing about Netflix if you think there are no ground rules. Do your homework before reacting emotionally to an incredibly biased article.

DigitalOcean TC TC Apr 7, 2019

There's 100% another side to this coin. Netflix is not stupid

BlackRock xis Apr 7, 2019

You will be surprised. The simple fact that they fired a lady in Dec when she’s due in May reflects badly on them.

Netflix bread Apr 7, 2019

If she sucks, she sucks and should be let go. Whether or not she’s preggo doesn’t really matter. The fact that you think pregnant women should be unfireable is concerning.

Google Mmkaay Apr 7, 2019

Some women may believe that if they are pregnant then they are untouchable and can’t be held accountable for their performance drop. If you are pregnant and don’t deliver anything in months then the company has every right to fire you for performance reasons. You don’t get a free ride just because you are pregnant

BlackRock xis Apr 7, 2019

Dude people always perform within error margin. Nothing significant changes overnight. Either you have not been a manager or a very poor judge of performance. I have seen women become much more aware of people being prejudiced around them and try even harder (before they go on leave)

Google Mmkaay Apr 7, 2019

Please notice that I didn’t judge anyone’s performance. Yes her performance might have degraded significantly over time, missed many critical deadlines and then fired. Netflix is known for being brutal on low performers, so I don’t believe they fired here because they saw her belly becoming bigger

Google SergeyBlin Apr 7, 2019

This is terrible (if true). But probably not the full story.

Netflix bread Apr 7, 2019

“her supervisor never gave her negative performance reviews” Hard to receive a negative performance review when we don’t even have performance reviews. Definitely not the whole story.

Roche DwxD41 OP Apr 7, 2019

What was the reason given in her company wide termination email?

Netflix bread Apr 7, 2019

Wait - how do you think this termination email thing works?

Amazon Northman Apr 7, 2019

Face it: other companies have processes like performance review and PIP for a reason - to protect from liability when you need to terminate somebody in a protected class. Netflix is so high on their performance and ownership driven culture and the culture deck that they think they can get away with terminating people any time, at will. So maybe this person deserved to get terminated, maybe not, but now Netflix gets to learn why the rules apply to them too. Too much of their own koolaid here.
