A Netflix recruiter reached out to me for a phone chat. - What should I expect from the initial interview? - Do they ask about salary expectations? YOE - 6 years production accounting #netflix
It’s usually just a friendly call to get to know you, and learn about your experience. Don’t worry too much about it. If you haven’t thought about salary expectations, just be honest, no need to throw random numbers
I read so much about their salary expectations question and not to sweat it because they tend to pay top of the market. But it’s always just an uncomfortable conversation anyway.
Hi , can an avg person do well and maintain their job at Netflix if they deliver results? What if I miss my deliverable by a week or two? Netflix is now a bigger company, do they still maintain same standards? Do we have to be 10x engineers to keep our jobs? Please respond @netflix.
I would expect: - what is your salary expectation (give a range!) - are you okay with coming into the office a few days a week - what is your experience with PSL, Showbiz Timecards, etc - we have this kind of work culture and are you okay with that? Usually phone chats are more like a prescreening rather than interview Good Luck!!
Thanks for this! Super helpful!
why would you give a range?
Initial interview on phone. Phone call with hiring manager. Got all the way to interview onsite. All-day marathon of interviews with different team members (literally saw the sun go down) to end with a "No, thank you." Never discussed salary. TBH, I was not a fan of the "We tell you bluntly why we didn't hire you." chat at the end. I can appreciate what they are probably trying to accomplish, but it really comes off cold and a kick in the pants when you are already down and have essentially blown a day of your life. Be prepared to showcase your experience and be able to define your accomplishments aligning with occupational standards. Good luck!
Thanks for this and I’m sorry that you didn’t get the role especially after going through that entire process. It’s so physically, mentally, and emotionally draining - I know the feeling because I went through it with Amazon. The only difference is Amazon doesn’t give you a reason for why they didn’t hire you. I don’t know which I’d like better tbh. It’s frustrating both ways I guess since no one likes getting rejected - reasons or not aside. I appreciate the input and advice. Truly helps. Thanks for being transparent and candid about your experience.
It’s all good. I’m employed so I can’t complain, particularly these strange days. Yeah, it’s kind of like breaking up. You think you know why it didn’t work out, it sucks. You could hear the cold hard truth why it didn’t work out, which can be constructive or just destroy your ego and rethink your value. I hope you get this. If it doesn’t work out, you do you and move on the the bigger and better opportunity. If it does work out, congrats and may you have continued success in a powerhouse company. Oh last thing. The culture deck obsession there is very very real. Don’t need to memorize but they will ask you your opinion on it and possibly how you see it impacting your role.

Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
I went the distance for a position in content at Netflix that they eventually decided not to create- salary expectations were never discussed.
Initial interview over the phone was straight forward- further description of the position and then questions about how your experiences would relate to the position/give examples. And some hypotheticals on how you would handle specific situations. All depends on the hiring manager i think- each has individual ‘style’ it seems
How frustrating for them not to go forward with it. I hope you have better luck with them next time if you decide to apply again. Okay so I’ll prep to chat about my experience and give examples. I hope I pass this initial chat. I’ve been applying to Netflix for years. 😩
