Got reached out to by Netflix hiring manager for research engineer role on their cdn/ streaming teams. Had a first phone screen at the end of which hiring manager told me that they were impressed. Had a second phone screen scheduled. I told them I'm looking to interview in a few months not immediately (had family issues to deal with and wanted to give it my best shot) Two weeks later I get an email from recruiter saying that they are moving forward with another candidate. Does this frequently happen? Am I still on their list of potential candidates? Was pretty excited about the role so a little sad now. (I'm happy where I am, salesforce recently gave me a promo and raise which takes my TC up to 310-340k, but Netflix seemed like it'll challenge me more :( )
You never pass on Netflix, I made that mistake earlier and never got an interview after!
I had no clue back then :(
If they have another opening in a few months maybe they'll reconsider you, but we hire people for specific roles so we aren't going to not hire for months waiting for a candidate. Make sure you tell the recruiter you want to stay in touch on future opportunities.
Did you ever figure out how much a research engineer makes at Netflix?
Check levels. Fyi
$340k? How many you?
