Netflix? I’m in talks with Netflix and wondering pros/cons about the structure and company culture? Anyone w/experience? Any insight would help.
OP - PM if you have any specific questions. I joined a couple of months back and I am absolutely loving it here
I assume you did not start your technical interviews - usually before even they start technical interview process you will have two calls, one with manager and other with recruiter. In both calls they wanted to make sure you understand the company culture multiple times and you still want to proceed. They will send you their famous culture deck and other material which talks about performance based culture blah, blah..That's my personal experience. So, rest assured as much as you want to understand the company culture, they also want to make sure you understand their company culture before they start the interviews or extend an offer.
Be ready to leave at any moment
Too many misconceptions about Netflix. No company wants to let go a high performer. But at the same time no company can screen out all low performers in interview process. So at the end of the day, it's about if you can do your job well.
How long to they typically provide for ramping up?
man, it’s no rocket science. I have lots of ex-coworkers working there and they said absolutely no change. This whole: you’re gonna get kicked out thing is a complete bs. If you do your job well it’s ok.
I have 5 friends who are all high performers with great records at well known companies before and after Netflix... and they were all fired (separate times, groups, etc).
lol 😂. A friend of a friend knew someone who overheard on the bus that Facebook fires people at bootcamp.
From what I hear, it’s a great company with great culture. They fire for low performance or when they don’t need your skill set, in either case you would anyway want to move out. And they provide a great severance package. Disclosure: I’ve never worked for Netflix, this is just my opinion based on what I’ve heard from folks who have worked at Netflix for many years.
Severance is 1 month pay for each year of service, rounded down to nearest whole year, and maxing out at 4 months pay iirc.
@Frogita From their site: “We generally offer a minimum of four months of full pay as a severance package, giving our ex-teammates time to find a new company.” Where are you getting the 1 month per year figure?
Hi
If you are paid top of the market salary, then it's implied that they want to keep best of the best ppl. There is no room for error.
They do away with documented, transparent, and organized bureaucracy, in exchange for fear, hidden politics, and an inherent need to feed the fear engine by firing 10% of every org every year. You may earn top of market for some period of time... at a cost.
On day 1, get ready to be kicked out. Then get ready to be kicked out everyday.
Lol
Lol it isn't that bad, you just can't be 100% potato like at other places.
