I have Netflix and Cruise onsite next week. While I dont know if I will pass both, I am leaning toward Cruise if got offers, and thatz why preparing more for Cruise. Am I crazy? Google phone screen is scheduled for next week as well but the recruiter said its a 2 month long process. So if that works out ofcourse that will be my first choice. Also talking to few startups and few internationl orgs, Agoda is one in Thailand, but not really excited about that just yet. what would you do?
Netflix pays a ton, and probably has longer term job security. But not knowing the roles, I really cannot tell you which is better. Cruise might be a great fit!
Both are PMT roles, Netflix role is good with ML application, but Cruise product is really interesting to me personally. i have read here on blind that CRuise pays well, so lets say comp is comparable.
Cruise pay is definitely not comparable to Netflix pay.
Ridiculous blanket statement. Are you talking about PM or another org?
Are you a PMT at Amazon and are all 4 yoe as a PM ? How did you get the interviews
Yes, I am currently a PMT and all 4 years have been as a PM. For interviews, just applied :)
Are you a L5 or L6 PMT at Amazon? What levels are you targeting for Cruise, Netflix and Google?
Was L5, got promoted to L6 first year- miss leveled at hire. Cruise and Netflix are Sr PM and Google is L5. The recruiter said I could try for L6 now or they can assess during the interview but it will be really hard based on what I have heard so happy with Google L5.
Is the recruiter recommending L6 PM at Google (equivalent to Amazon L7) with a total of 4 yoe ??
My current scope is of L7 at Amazon. The recruiter was open for me trying for L6, based on what I have delivered and what I am working on but was pushing toward L5 to ensure I can get in. I agreed with her in the end.
$195k seems on the lower side for L6 PMT at Amazon. Which city are you in? All these companies will definitely beat that. Cruise will have a significant component of RSUs that are paper money till (and if) the company goes public, so that’s something I would consider. Of all these Cruise might get you the most exciting work as the product is still being created. I’m not sure about your long term career trajectory though; Google/Netflix or even Amazon might help you more over there. Do you think you have a path to grow at Amazon considering you’ve been at L6 3+ years?
Yeah mate, the reason why I am looking outside. Since I got in as L5, when I hot promoted it was at the bottom of the band. I am in Seattle. I can certainly see L7 in next 2 years if I stay with Amazon but the TC is killing me so need to go out try something different and maybe come back. Cruise still gets my vote because of the product.
As a Cruise employee I suggest you consider carefully before joining. PM me for more information if you're interested.
So glad to see other Cruisers being honest about problems regarding culture at our company (usually it’s a bunch of “don’t listen to the naysayers, they’re bitter useless ex-employees who got fired, we are awesome and everything is perfect!”).
Yeahhhhh. It's not great. There are a lot of inter-team issues, at least in infra. CLAP! COME ON, CLAP!
Do not join Cruise as an PM.
Why specifically as a PM?
Because PM culture at Cruise is absolute shit.
Oh and TC: $195, 4 yoe
You almost blew it not pushing your TC. You're forgiven...for now. 🤔
