I have an interview next week for Google but I have not prepared at all because I am not motivated at all for the interview. Pretty happy at Netflix, but you know, google is always an admired company if you are a software engineer, so just said ok for the interview when contacted by an recruiter. Googlers, can you share your opinion? Or, If there is any Googler moved from Netflix here in blind, can you share your experience? Was it a good move for you?
Unless you are coming in as L6 (which is very difficult) don't even bother coming to Google. Promotions are a nightmare. The total comp is generally not as high as those being posted on Blind. More importantly, Google is HUGE and majority of the work people do is really shitty.. boring..work. You learn very little (most of my knowledge about Google's infrastructure internal details are from the externally pulished papers. There is hardly any documentation internally. If you are one of those highly exceptional people who will learn things quickly, come up with great ideas, execute well.. you will do well at Google..but then you can do well anywhere!; your skills are better spent elsewhere in a smaller company. Anyway.. bottom line..don't join Google. Don't even interview. Just cancel the interviews and chill. Cosidering that you aren't well prepared, (by your own admission), it is possible that you may not make it through. This WILL leave a scar ..no matter how much you think you are ready to take a rejection :)..it will then fuck u up internally and affect your work (at least for a few days) and then you will want interview again at Google to prove a point (to yourself) that you can clear the interviews. It never ends well..trust me..stay put!
Yikes. This guy doesn't learn anything here and says the majority of work is shitty. U wonder why ur not satisfied with TC and promos are a challenge ?
How easy is it to switch teams at Netflix? In case one gets bored of working in the same team?
As long as the incoming manager wants to take you. No formal policy.
Only thing is Google hours are so chill. My 'on call' is a joke and I still get paid for it while my friends at AMZN have a hard oncall and don't even get paid.
Netflix is a top tier company. I wouldn’t spend your time interviewing if you’re not that interested. The reality is Google pays low compared to the market rate and Netflix pays the highest 🤔
Google is known these days for lowballing at first but will match any other competing offer. If Op gets an offer, Google should match Netflix
Are they allowed to use the previous salary if given (CA)? Or can they match Netflix salary based on data?
