Any tips for how to start preparing cloud technology ? Currently in network device SW testing and want to catch up on cloud.. even company is trying to. Any good generic cloud MOOC or YouTube channel that someone can recommend ? Dont want to jump into certifications like AWS as it might be vendor focused and not the technology itself. #cloud #networkengineer #arista #telecom #qa #paloaltonetworks #cisco #juniper #aws #googlecloud
Bump
When u say cloud technology, that’s an expansive space. AWS or AZure certifications would mean that you get well versed with the specific cloud framework. I have started on Azure recently and honestly azure networking documentation sucks!! I am so disappointed with Azure support even. You need to go two levels deep into the Azure support before you reach an SME for anything
Cloud networking both hardware and software is a niche area .. try taking azure/ aws / GCP network type specific fundamentals course in YouTube - generic search will work. May be 2 hrs in total across 3 cloud platform which should give you further idea on which area to focus.
Learn Python. build your own APIs, then you will see that "Cloud" is just marketing + bunch of APIs + hacky POCs. The definition of Cloud includes self-service yet if that were the case, there would not be such a market for cloud engineers. Then I guess learn to keep your mouth shut about the hacky POCs.
This looks spot on with what ive researched.
Well said. I am into cloud dev last two years and cant believe cisco lost its share to this shit. Proves the worst leadership we have here
Aws is easy to use. Cisco make things look very complicated. Let the cloud provider hides the mess. Most customers don't need very fancy features. ACI is cool concept but proprietary which makes it difficult to negotiate price in future. I believe in cloud. No more UCS, no more internal data center. All in clouds
Agree no more. Proprietary is thing in past. ACI means Azure Container Instance. iOS is not IOS. iPhone is not IP Phone. Wake up Cisco. By the way, ACI is nothing new. Policies thing was there 20+year ago .
1. Udemy has a decent Docker + k8s class I got a lot out of. Author is S Grider. 2. Create a static web page or create-react-app and deploy it to gcp, aws, and azure. 3. Pick a language you know, install the aws library for it and mess around. Example: create an S3 bucket and see if you can xfer a file from your local machine to there. 4. Check out the Google SRE book 5. Find more relevant Udemy courses
Thanks indeed. Very helpful
Udacity Cloud Developer course anybody? How does it stack up for learning Cloud?
Don't worry if you do any certification you would be tied to one vendor. The knowledge is easily transferable. Atleast the associate certification are easy to get started with, do 2certs from any vendor of your choice and brand yourself as a multicloud Dev and boom every recruiter starts sucking your dick. If you want to get your hands dirty, Linux academy has nice courses
Learn terraform and ansible that helps you with network and infra automation. Then learn docker and kubernetes. Then on to aws/azure and gcp introductory certificates.

Cleared Amazon onsite, but lowballed.
Google cloud has hired a lot of cisco trash so it should be pretty easy to get in there. They literally just hired one of the most incompetent, craven and political managers that exists in all of cisco, and believe you me, that’s saying something.
I think I might know who u r referring to :)
You definitely sound whiny my friend. Did google cloud reject you ? 🤪 Also who is this manager ? 😁
