Hi, folks. Any Software Engineers who migrated to Canada in their mid-twenties/thirties, became a Canadian citizen and managed to get a TN VISA as a Software Engineer? I've heard due to lack of ties in Canada sometimes the TN Visa could be denied, despite having a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and an offer as a SWE. I don't intend to live permanently in the USA at all, just interested in maybe spending 4-5 years to max the TC/RSUs for a while. Thanks! Any feedback on this is totally appreciated. you can apply for TN sitting at home instead of doing it at the border. Before you leave your Canadian job, make sure your TN is approved.
Great piece of advice! I'll definitely look into it. Getting denied at the border sounds like the worst nightmare. It's amazing it's possible to the this visa approved upfront before crossing the border. Thanks.
If you go to work in US on TN visa, do you have to pay tax both in CA and US? Then the salary might not be very advantageous due to more tax?
I heard TN visa much easier to get of you fly into the US vs applying for it at the car border
Interesting. I was under the impression that terrestrial border would be less hassle, assuming you've got a pre-approved TN before crossing. Would you recommend any airport in specific? Appreciated that.
did it end up ok?
It boils down to the individual border agent if doing it at the border. Chances are you'll be fine getting it just for a few years. They usually bother you only if you've been doing it for a long time. Ymmv
Thanks limone, good to know.
