I have offers from Plaid and Asana for new grad SWE positions. Would love to hear your thoughts on which you would choose, and why. The Asana offer is for NY, which is definitely my preferred location, and Plaid is in SF. However, Plaid's business interests me a bit more, there's a wider selection of teams in SF, and TC is higher (about 20-25k higher per year in cash + equity). Most important to me is opportunity for growth/learning and good culture, but it seems like both companies hit the mark on that respect - though I would give the edge to Asana.
Asana all the way
TC or GTFO
you’re young, go to nyc and date a lot and make friends, go to SF when you’re ready settle down
Terrible advice for career. SF is the tech hub and you should be here in start of career. NY is for finance
NYC is growing rapidly as a tech hub. Initial few years career can take a backseat, OP would not be changing jobs every year
I definitely prefer NY in terms of location (I'm from the East coast, and the city aligns more with my hobbies/interests), but I think I might have more opportunity to grow at Plaid SF and I'm more optimistic about their prospects in general. That being said I liked both when I interviewed. What are factors besides location that could help me decide?
I was choosing between these offers this year as well, and went with Plaid. In addition to significantly higher comp, they have a stronger core business, and really strong mentorship and culture. DM me for more info if you want
Plaid has a NY office
Feel free to PM for questions about Plaid. FWIW my opinion of the company is very positive.
What did you end up choosing? I hope it was Asana, this is the best place I’ve ever worked. :)
